The town of Mesquite is home to a lot of history long before Nevada became a state in 1864.
Flash forward nearly 160 years later, Dustin Berg was able to encapsulate the town into a nearly 200-page book, from its growing population to the evolution of the terrain for those to explore on a normal day either during the week or on the weekend.
In November, "All Around Mesquite: History, Trails & Destinations," was published and provides a "comprehensive guide" to the area.
This is the opening of the story. The story ran with a portrait of Dustin Berg.
The rest of the story follows Berg from his 2019 move to Mesquite and a restaurant plan the pandemic ended, to the realization that somebody should write down the stories he kept hearing, the twelve months spent exploring Mesquite, Clark County, the tri-state area of Utah and Arizona, Moapa Valley and St. George, the trips to the heritage museum, the struggle to keep so much anecdotal history organized and factual, the No. 1 bestseller recognition on Amazon, and the Facebook group where readers share their own pictures and stories.
The Progress (Moapa Valley) on the book's release: three years of trail riding and research, a trail guide that is also a history, and the launch signing at Juniper Outpost.
